What is Confirmation?
Confirmation provides young people and adults with the opportunity to affirm for themselves the vows made on their behalf by their parents and godparents at their Baptism.
In the Anglican (Church of England) tradition, Confirmation is normally the way to regular participation in Holy Communion.
Parents and children are particularly welcome at the Parish Communion and Family Services held at 9.30 and 11 a.m. on Sundays at various churches across the Savernake Team. For details, click on the Churches and Parishes Area.
At the heart of Confirmation, the Bishop lays his hands on the candidates head and prays that he or she will be strengthened with the life-long gift of the Holy Spirit.
Confirmation candidates from the Savernake Team are normally confirmed at regular services held in Salisbury Cathedral, where they are presented to the Bishop by the member of the clergy who has prepared them for Confirmation.
These services are wonderful occasions, giving candidates a renewed sense of faith and commitment.
